Love this site!
It's a fact that almost nobody has enough pure water to last through an extended crisis -- and almost nobody ever will! And when that good water is gone you will be in a real pickle trying to use food that needs re-constituting, and for drinking, etc.
We have a solution to the pure water problem at www.tmp-az.com. for you who are serious about all this, and for the Survival Food, Freeze-dried and MRE company to retail if they wish. It's a unit which can provide 65 plus gals. of pure water per day WITHOUT ELECTRICITY, from questionable water from lakes, rivers, canals, faucets, etc. Most of Americans live not too distant from one of these. And electricity may be completely lacking!
 Happy trails; - Jim Pinkerman - 480-833-2920

Yes water heaters are often sited in emergency planning as a source you can use.

The FEMA recommended daily emergency water supply is 1 gallon per person per day.

For a family of four 70 gallons would be good for 17 days.

Wouldn't the hot water heater of you house be a practical, always ready supply of clean water? I have two hot water heaters with a combined amount of 70 gallons of water that I can readily access in an emergency. Using the hot water in my house continually refreshes the supply.
