Planning Your 3 Month Food Supply

Published by Kevin at 8:09 pm

If you want to go the bulk food rotating inventory route and are determined to make it a success, there is an excellent video and website for you.

The name of the website is Food Storage Made Easy.

Amazing amount of great information on food storage is there. The proprietors of Food Storage Made Easy, Jodi and Julie have laid out some great tools with spreadsheets and video tutorials on how to create your own 72 hour kits, 3 month storage and shelf racks and more.

On the site you start with “Getting Started” of course, and then there are 9 “baby steps” you take on your way to going beyond food storage.

Here is a video of Julie explaining how to use the 3 month food supply spread sheet;

More than just spreadsheets and videos, there is a lot of great advice in regular blog posts such as the recent “How To Build Your Own Can Rotating Rack”.

There appears to be a good group of people following judging by the comments to blog posts there. There is a forum as well but that has not seemed to evolve yet.

I checked the site visitor stats on Compete.com and they surged to over 20k per month in January 09;

No doubt due to the great content there.

I still recommend freeze dried food and MRE reserves as the most effective and fastest way to be prepared.

If you are someone who is ready for the commitment of managing a bulk food rotating inventory system then I strongly recommend you start with Food Storage Made Easy.

    I think the items you listed are good items to have. There are a couple items that should
    be added. First, you know when your body is under stress it goes through your bodies
    vitamins, minerals & water much quicker than it would under normal conditions. Problem
    is you cannot carry enough water with you. One of the largest causes of death in a disaster
    is being dehydrated & out of fuel(vitamins). The young & the elderly are the first to have
    problems.
    So the two things, I have added to my BOB is a aquamira filter straw. Do not buy one off
    of the aquamira website though because you can get them cheaper on other sites, just google
    it.
    The second item is called Lifecaps. They are capsules that have all the vitamins & minerals
    even Iodine to sustain life. You can live off of the lifecaps & water alone. If you want
    to learn more about them go to Lifecaps.net
    After buying 25 bottles, I got a coupon code & got 75 more bottles. The coupon code is
    “Healthcaps”
    It will get you 30% off. Now with a water filter & healthcaps you can carry & fit much
    more in your bug out bag. Easily carry enough food with the capsules to sustain life for
    months. You cannot live without water.

    That is not all I carry in my bag. I was just adding to what I saw posted earlier. I have
    a very extensive medical bag, I can sew wounds, cut off limbs & more along with the normal basic medical kit. I train with an 80 lb. bag, I have spent 41 days in the Southern Utah desert, I have eaten bugs, honey ants & worms, saved my pee to distill. I have all my paperwork, extra I.D. & birth certificate, gun ammo, MRE’s, high calorie food rations, 3 different knives, small folding shovel, hatchet, leatherman, maps, compass, matches & two alternate kinds of firestarters etc. I have never seen a bag as complete as the one I carry. I have been doing this for 18 years, so when I come across a couple items & new ideas, I just wanted to give people some ideas. You can only carry so much & the Lifecaps, waterfilter & fiber with that simple recipe I mentioned are only additions to your normal bag. I also have guns & ammo sealed in 3″ pvc with extra supplies burried at my Northern location if I can make it up there in an emergency & food, guns & supplies at a friends in Idaho, my parents & my brothers in case I have to head there way. I can live on the land permanently if need be. I also carry a small
    library of referrence books & notes in my pack. I am always open to new ideas & eternally
    looking. I stand behind what I stated previously & apologize if I did not make it clear
    that the lifecaps, filter & soda bread recipe were just great lightweight & lifesaving
    additions.
    Thanks for your feedback.
    Todd
